How to solve a problem (well an introduction to)

While the title of this blog post may seem a little strange, it's actually quite difficult to solve a problem, especially in when it comes to the digital space for business'.

The reason being, we're often fixing a problem on the surface while missing the underlying issue. This can manifest itself in multiple ways, often causing us to waste time running around in circles. One cause of this is the speed to which we want to fix a problem. One term that's gets bandied about these days is 'quickwins' everyone is after the 'quickwins'. Rather than dedicating a massive 12 month project to solve the problem, companies are keen to get something out to the customer as quickly as possible while the rest of the solution can be worked on. The idea is great, customers see improvement quickly and companies get to make multiple improvements instead of one large intimating project. The realities of this often don't add up due to missing the first crucial step of solving a problem.

What is the real problem you're trying to solve.

Over the next few blog posts I'll be writing about the steps and techniques I use to help solve problems, and more importantly ensure that they get implemented.

The blog posts will be broken up into 3 posts:

1. What's your problem? Recognizing the real issue?
2. Solutions to the issue.
3. Implementing a plan of attack that works.

While this wont solve all problems, these techniques and thought patterns can be applied to a variety of different situations which I hope you'll find useful.
